Prepare a Competency Review Form

Select the three sessions you observed, and RaeNotes works out which behavioral statements the coach demonstrated, which competencies meet the requirement, and the moments that prove it. You add your judgment and feedback, and export ICF's Competency Review Form.

Each session should be marked as described in Fill in a Session Observation Form, against the same competency model.

Step-by-step guide

1

Select three sessions

In your library, tick the checkbox on each of the three observed sessions. Click Competency review and choose Competency review. The review takes exactly three sessions; Analytics works from two upwards.

2

Check the model and the Statement ratings resolution

The page names the competency model the three sessions share. For ACC and MCC, choose the Statement ratings resolution: how each session rates a statement marked more than once, just as its Session Observation Form does. Most frequent rating is the default. A statement is demonstrated when any session rates it Meets or Exceeds Standard.

3

Fill in the administrative information

Pick yourself as the Mentor Coach Name: only the markings you made count towards the review. Then fill in the client, the date of the feedback session, the level of the mentor coaching services and the hours.

The Session Log lists the three sessions with their date and length; choose each session's modality.

4

Review the cumulative demonstration

RaeNotes ticks each statement of Competencies 3 to 8 Proficiency Demonstrated or Proficiency Not Yet Demonstrated, and answers the form's question for each competency: has the coach demonstrated at least two thirds of its statements?

Click Proof next to a statement to see the moments behind it, with the session and time.

For Competency 1, verify the coach's ethical practice with Yes or No, and add notes for Competencies 1 and 2.

Competency 3 with every statement demonstrated, one proof opened, and the verdict Yes
Competency 3 meets the requirement; the proof of 3.3 is open.
Competency 5 with two of four statements demonstrated and the verdict No
Competency 5 has 2 of the 3 statements it needs, so it does not meet the requirement yet.
5

Write the cumulative feedback

Under Areas of Strength and Areas for Development, select a statement, tick the moments to cite, and write your feedback comment. Use Add area for more.

  • For a strength, the statements demonstrated in the most sessions come first, and you can cite the moments that demonstrate the statement.
  • For a development area, the statements demonstrated in the fewest sessions come first, and you can cite any of your moments of the statement, those below the standard first.

Each cited moment is quoted on the form with its time.

A strength citing a moment rated Exceeds Standard, and a development area citing one rated Below Standard.
6

Complete the checklist and signatures, then export

Tick the Mentor Coach Self-Review Checklist, choose the overall proficiency and confirm the attestation under Signatures and Attestations. Click Export at the top: RaeNotes downloads ICF's Competency Review Form filled in from the page.

Exported form: Competency 3 statements ticked Proficiency Demonstrated and the verdict Yes
The exported form: the cumulative demonstration of Competency 3.
Exported form: an area of strength with the statement, the cited quote and the comment
The exported form: an area of strength, with the cited moment quoted.

Competency analytics

To see where a coach stands without filling in the form, select two or more sessions and choose Competency review → Analytics, or click Analytics on the review page. It charts the same decisions: how many statements are demonstrated, how many competencies meet the requirement, and each session's contribution.

Good to know

  • Only the mentor coach's markings count. Markings by anyone else on the same sessions, the coach's own among them, are left out. Changing the mentor coach clears every cited moment, and changing the Statement ratings resolution clears the moments cited as strengths; statements and comments stay.
  • One model for all three sessions. The sessions must be marked against the same competency model.
  • The page and the form agree. The exported form uses the same decisions as the page, so what you review is what you sign.
  • PCC. A statement is demonstrated when any session observes it under ICF's PCC rubric; there is no Statement ratings resolution to choose.
